DIABETES

  India has the second highest total population in the world more than 1.3 billion people. According to the International Diabetes Federation (2017), out of total population of India 72.9 million adults are suffering from diabetes.


What Is Diabetes? 

   A medical condition in which the concentration of blood sugar is too high as compared to normal concentration, is known as Diabetes. Blood sugar, also called Blood glucose is maintained by insulin (a hormone made by pancreas). Increased concentration of insulin, increases the concentration of blood glucose which results in diabetes. Diabetes has no cure, it is only maintained and controlled by precautions and medication.


Levels of blood sugar

  • Level of blood sugar less than 140 mg/dL is considered as normal.
  • Level of blood sugar between 140 and 199 mg/dL is considered as prediabetes.
  • Level of blood sugar 200 mg/dL or higher is considered as Diabetes.
Types of Diabetes

The most common types of diabetes are type 1,  type 2 and gestational diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes

In type 1 diabetes you body does not make insulin and your immune system attack and destroy the cells making insulin in your pancreas. It is usually diagnosed in children and young adults.

Type 2 Diabetes

In type 2 diabetes your body will be unable to use insulin formed by pancreas. It is usually diagnosed in middle aged and older people but can be found in children also.

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational Diabetes develops in some women during pregnancy and may goes after delivery of the baby. But such people are at risk of type 2 diabetes later in life.

Symptoms

  • Low energy level
  • Easily exhausted
  • Increased thirst
  • Increased hunger
  • Increased urination
  • Wounds does not heals easily
  • Weight loss
Causes

  • Genetic mutation
  • Hormonal disbalance
  • Any type of damage to pancreas
  • Excessive stress
  • Excessive use of medicine
Precautions

  • Avoid eating artificial sugar, but can take natural sugar in very low quantity
  • Be physically active
  • Take food which promotes the formation of insulin
  • Avoid stress and consumption of alcohol
