CLASS 6th GEOGRAPHY CHAPTER 1 : The Earth in the Solar System:

      ·      Celestial bodies: The sun, the moon and all those objects shining in the sky are called Celestial Bodies.

·         Stars: Celestial bodies having their own heat and light.

·         Constellation: A group of stars that forms a pattern is called constellation.

For ex: Ursa major or big bear, satprishi (sapta- seven;  rishi-sages

Constellation

Ø Pole star: Also known as North star. It always indicates north direction.

Ø Asteroids: planets and satellites, there are numerous tiny bodies which also move around the sun.

Asteroid

Ø Meteoroids: the small pieces of rocks which move around the sun.

v Distance in million kilometers

v(1million = 10 lakh km)

Meteroids

Sun > Mercury (58 million km)> Venus (108 million km)> Earth (150 million km) > Mars (228 million km) > Jupiter (778 million km)> Saturn (1427 million km) > Uranus (2869 million km)> Neptune (4496 million km) There is asteroid belt between mars and Jupiter.

vThe Sun: center of solar system. It is about 150 million km away from the Earth.

vOrbits: the path on which planets move around the Sun.

v Galaxy: is a huge system of billions of stars and clouds of dust and gases.

v Universe: There are millions of such galaxies that make the universe.

vIn ancient India, it was imagined to be a river of light flowing in the sky. Thus, it named Akash Ganga .
