We talked about menstruation, now we are going to talk about diet and few simple tips which help a lot during menstrual cycle. First of all, we will talk about the effects of menstruation or periods on level of blood in the body. As we know we lose 35-40ml of blood every month which is not very huge quantity but can cause in decreased concentration of blood in the body. Due to which one can suffer from weakness, dizziness and shortness of breath.
According to a report of WHO (World Health Organization) 42% of children less than the age of 5years and 40% of pregnant women in all over the world are suffering from Anemia (It is a condition in which the number of RBC's, red blood cells or the haemoglobin concentration is lower than the normal). Therefore, we should take a healthy diet especially during menstruation. We must include green leafy vegetables and vegetables such as tomatoes, carrots, turnip etc., and fruits such as apple, pomegranate and mainly citrus fruits. As they promotes the formation of blood in our body.
This is about what should be eaten. Now what should be avoided? First of all, try to avoid eating junk food or oily food because some girls have problem of weak digestion during menstruation so try to eat healthy, light and home made food only. Secondly, avoid cold drinks, cold water or drinks containing carbon dioxide or other gases and preservatives. As they result increases in menstrual pain or cramps instead of it take Luke warm water, hot milk, coffee or tea according to your mood.There are some exercises also which may reduce menstrual cramps such as knees to chest pose (pavanmuktasan), child pose etc.
